Unfortunately, my practices have simplified to the point of being hardly noticeable to the unpracticed eye. With a newborn, my own personal recovery for the last two months, and early mornings due to the older kids being back in school, my own rituals have become corporate with my family. While it is still yet dark in the morning, and with steaming cups of coffee in weary parents’ hands, I light three candles for the Trinity and, as a family, we name someone/something that we light each candle for—in other words, who are we holding in thought and prayer as we light that candle? Then we go around our slowly awakening circle and state a hope for the day. With an ‘Amen,’ I’m off to making breakfast and lunches.
