my meaningful morning
I’m a monastic at heart. My Morning Ritual begins sometime between the hours of 3:00 to 4:00 a.m. I make a cup of coffee and come upstairs to my prayer corner in my workspace. I light candles and write a daily letter to the Holy One, in a small journal. In my letter I include my intercessory prayers and gratitude for the previous day’s blessings. Afterwards, I sit in silence, resting in God’s presence. Each day varies a bit from this point on. I may choose to read something inspirational, spend time journaling, or choose to experience the practice of lectio divina (reading a passage of sacred text, followed by reflection). This quiet hour, as night becomes day, is to me a fertile peaceful landscape that is alive with God’s presence. My Morning Ritual is essential as life-giving nourishment for my well-being, my work, and my relationships.
