my meaningful morning
My Morning Ritual in this season starts early (fingers crossed) and is drawn out—the perfect way to ease into the day. It’s usually the thought of coffee that gets me out of bed during these cold, dark mornings, but it’s my time spent with a chapter from my current spiritual reading that makes me glad I awoke early in the end. After my reading is finished and my coffee is gone, I head back to a corner chair in my bedroom for centering prayer. I light some incense beside me, set a timer, and read a poem or prayer from one of my favorite collections. When the bell chimes after twenty minutes, I say a silent prayer and gently open my eyes. I then change into my yoga clothes and head back into the living room for a short yoga practice. At the end of the time I feel rooted and ready to engage the day—body, mind, and soul.
